Indiana artist to exhibit works at Troy University ’s Malone Gallery
The paintings of Ralph Larmann, a member of the faculty at the University of Evansville (IN), will be on display at the Malone Gallery of Art at Troy University in an exhibit called “Folklore of Identity” from Oct. 25 until Nov. 26.
An artist’s reception is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 25, from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Malone Gallery. The public is invited to attend. There is no admission charge for either the artist’s reception or the exhibit.
Jerry Johnson, chair of the Department of Art and Graphic Design, said he chose Larmann’s work for exhibition because he believes Troy University students will benefit from seeing his particular approach to art.
“Mr. Larmann is an unashamed explorer of texture and color,” Johnson said. “I believe that this is the primary reason that I am particularly interested in his work.
“I also know that Mr. Larmann is a leader in teaching arts foundation courses and is currently the President of the national organization F.A.T.E. Foundations in Art: Theory and Education,” Johnson added. “I am anxious for our students to not only see the paintings of Mr. Larmann, but also to hear his general remarks about art in our contemporary society.”
Larmann, a member of the Evansville faculty since 1989, received his bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Cincinnati and his master of fine arts from James Madison University .
Larmann’s work has been shown in more than 60 solo and group exhibitions over the past decade. In 2002, his work was included in an exhibit at Troy University as part of a faculty exchange exhibit. His latest solo shows of “Folklore of Identity” have been at Athens State University and United Fidelity Bank, Evansville . Recent group exhibitions have been at “Art on the Ohio ,” Hope Gallery of Contemporary Art in Evansville and
Indiana
Now! Art Museum of Lafayette , IN.
The Malone Gallery is open 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 334-670-3391.
