Wallace Malone to speak at Troy University commencement May 6
   

TROY Birmingham banker Wallace Malone, former president pro-tem of the Troy University Board of Trustees, will return to campus Friday, May 6, to deliver the spring commencement address.

The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Sartain Hall, with approximately 550 students from 22 U.S. states and 13 nations scheduled to receive diplomas. Although there is no charge to attend, a ticket will be required to gain admittance. Each graduate will receive an allotment of tickets. The remaining tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis on the day of commencement at the ticket window at Sartain Hall.  

“We are looking forward to welcoming Mr. Wallace Malone back to Troy University for our commencement ceremony,” Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., chancellor, said. “He is an outstanding business leader for this state and has played a major role in the development and growth of this university.”

Malone is Vice Chairman of the Wachovia Corp. and former chairman, president and chief executive officer of SouthTrust Corp. A native of Dothan , Malone graduated from the University of Alabama and received his master of business administration degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania .

Malone was a member of the University’s Board of Trustees for nearly 20 years. The fine arts building on the Troy Campus and the administration building on the Dothan Campus are named in his honor. He is past-president of both the Dothan and Birmingham chambers of commerce.

His civic involvement includes affiliation with The Salvation Army, Birmingham Business Leadership Group, Quarterback Club of Birmingham, Greater Alabama Council-Boy Scouts of America, EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, Baptist Health System and the Rotary Club of Birmingham.
