Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum and its director Georgette Norman were recently honored by the National Association of Social Workers.
The museum, located on the University’s Montgomery Campus in downtown Montgomery, was named the organization’s Public Service Program of the Year. The museum, which opened in 2001, commemorates Park’s refusal to surrender her seat on the Montgomery City Bus to a white man on Dec. 1, 1955, her subsequent arrest and the activities of the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott that ensued. Plans for the addition of a Children’s Annex to the museum are currently underway with completion targeted for December.
Georgette Norman, the museum’s director, also was honored as the organization’s Public Citizen of the Year. She delivered the keynote address at the organization’s awards luncheon held at the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery on March 18. The awards are on display at the museum. |
