The fifth annual Troy University Alumni, Parents and Friends St. Patrick’s Day celebration will begin Friday, March 11.
“We’re encouraging our alumni and friends, as well as the general public, to take part in the celebration,” said Faith Ward, director of alumni affairs. “The events we have scheduled this year offer something for everyone, and we believe it will be a great opportunity for our alumni to return to campus to take part in our reunion activities.”
Activities on March 11 will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor, followed by the Choral Masterworks Festival at 8 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater. The festival, presented by the Troy Arts Council, will feature the Troy University Collegiate Singers and the Chamber Choir, as well as the Shelton State Singers, Wallace State Concert Choir Singers and the Banbridge College Singers. Guest soloists for the event include Michelle Lott and Chris O’Rear. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $5 students or $2 per student for a student group of 10 or more and may be ordered from the Troy University Box Office at 670-3773 or purchased at the door.
On Saturday, March 12, the Nick Costes Memorial 5K/10K Race will kick off a day full of activities on the Shackelford Quad.
The Baptist Campus Ministries of Troy University will present a Carnival of Care with proceeds going to aid tsunami victims from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 12. The carnival will feature various games and activities for children, in addition to a bake sale and silent auction. The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held at noon on March 12, stretching through campus on University Avenue and ending at the Sartain Hall parking lot. Tailgating activities will follow at 12:30 p.m. on the Shackelford Quad, leading up to the kickoff of the annual T-Day intra-squad football game at 2 p.m. in Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
A special performance of Handel’s Messiah will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Claudia Crosby Theater. The performance is being held in honor of longtime TROY music professor Dr. William Denison, who is retiring. A reception honoring Dr. Denison will follow at 5 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms. All alumni and friends are welcome.
The day’s events will also include the annual alumni reunion dinner and the presentation of the Distinguished Leadership Award, scheduled for the Trojan Center Ballrooms beginning at 6 p.m. A dance will follow the dinner and awards presentation featuring the band, The Fabulous Shades.
