Troy University’s Black History Committee and the Auburn University Center for the Arts and Humanities to Sponsor Presentation by noted Alabama author, Frye Gaillard

Noted Alabama author Frye Gaillard will speak on his latest book, Cradle of Freedom, as a part of Black History Month activities at Troy University ’s Montgomery Campus on Feb. 23. The presentation, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. , will be held in the Rosa Parks Museum Auditorium.
The author of nineteen books, Galliard will highlight the critical role that Alabama played in the Civil Rights Movement.

Gaillard’s presentation is one of a series of lectures and discussions that he is giving throughout the state.  The presentation focuses on his work that was taken from personal accounts and interviews with actual participants in the Civil Rights Movement, including Rosa Parks and the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth.  Commissioned by the Auburn University Center for the Arts and Humanities, Gaillard surveys the struggles of the 1950s and 1960s, highlighting key occurrences such as the Bus Boycott, Freedom Rides, events in Birmingham , and the Selma to Montgomery March.  In doing so, Gaillard illustrates that progress is possible, even in the context of hate and heartbreak.

This event is free and open to the public.  For additional information, please contact Georgette Norman at gmnorman@troy.edu or (334) 241-8608.
