Troy University chancellor to participate in presidential mission to Africa

Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., will travel to Morocco this week as part of a delegation of administrators from U.S. universities sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

The mission to Morocco will allow presidents to explore opportunities for partnerships between American campuses and the colleges and universities of Morocco.
“The purpose of these missions is to start conversations with other university leaders about potential exchange programs,” Dr. Hawkins said. “We welcome the opportunity to expand Troy University’s international programs as a means of providing the best possible academic experience for all our students.”

The itinerary for the Jan. 7-15 trip includes briefings from the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Training and Scientific Research and the U.S. State Department. It will also include campus visits in Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat. The U.S. delegation will visit Mohammed V. Souissi University, Cadi Ayad University and Hassan II University’s Ain-Chock and Mohammedia campuses.
Dr. Hawkins has been selected to present an overview of U.S. higher education to members of the ministry of education and to presidents of Moroccan colleges and universities.

The Troy University Chancellor said Moroccan universities are seeking U.S. partnerships at a time when education officials in that nation are trying to develop a labor force that can succeed in a “high-tech” international marketplace.
Troy University currently enrolls on its main campus approximately 20 students from Morocco and about 100 students from across Africa.
