Troy University Students Win Scholarship

When three Troy University design students began working on a project for their paper/screen class they had no idea it would prove to be so rewarding.

Montgomery native Shannon Rogers, Kenneth Strahn of Prattville and James Scott Calvert of Silver Hill were one of five teams working on the class project to design a campaign for a local insurance company.

“The students were challenged with building a campaign for Frontline Insurance Group,” said Jerry Johnson, chair of the Department of Art and Design and professor of the class. “The campaign was to include a logo, print ads, web page, posters, magazine ads, stationary design, radio spots, storyboards for television, car magnets, flash animation, caps and shirts.”
The students spent many hours brainstorming, sketching and starting all over before finally deciding on a campaign they thought would work for Frontline Insurance.

The presentation was the final aspect of the entire project. The teams had to present their campaigns to Frontline Insurance Group owner Jim Bohanan and other representatives of the company.

After all the presentations by the teams and deliberations by the company, Frontline announced the winning team of Strahn, Rogers and Calvert and presented them with a contract for their work and a surprising $1,500 scholarship check.
“We knew that we were going to receive scholarship money, but we had no idea that it would be $1,500,” Shannon Rogers said. “This is great.”

The team designed a logo that covered every aspect of the company, including its focus on athletes and its Christian values.
“I want to congratulate Shannon, Ken and Scott on their campaign,” Johnson said. “Their work was outstanding.”
