Troy University's Davis Theatre Announces 10th Annual Season
   

Montgomery , AL – Season tickets go on sale Aug. 1 for Troy University ’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts 2005-2006 Season Subscriber Series, which will feature six professional touring theater productions and two bonus University events. 

 

The professional touring season will open on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with Debbie Reynolds in Concert.  Reynolds, “ America ’s Sweetheart,” is best known as Gene Kelly’s dance partner in Singin’ in the Rain.  Join her for a very special evening filled with dance, laughter and entertaining stories about her career.  The second offering on Saturday, Oct. 8, will be the Tony Award-winning musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie.  This singing, dancing, romancing musical comedy is the story of a young woman who arrives in New York City determined to search for a new life.  On Tuesday, Nov. 1, every member of the family is sure to enjoy The Spencers Theatre of Illusion.  By combining original theatrical elements, cutting-edge illusions, audience interaction, special effects and stage magic, the Spencers have propelled the age-old art of magic into the 21st Century.  For the next offering of the season on Monday, Dec. 12, a special holiday event is planned.  Best of Broadway Presents Christmas from Broadway will lift your spirits and warm your heart with traditional holiday music from around the world sung by today’s Broadway stars.  On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2006 , the season will continue with the witty and entertaining musical Mame.  This delightful show tells the story of Mame Dennis, a true grand dame, who takes on the rearing of her orphaned nephew Patrick and turns his life into a dizzying series of fantastic and funny adventures.  The score features such favorites as “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Mame” and “If He Walked Into My Life.”  The season will close on Friday, March 31, 2006 , with the exciting sounds of two of the 60s most loved pop idols – Gary Lewis and Lou Christie.  Some of Gary Lewis and the Playboys’ top hits include “This Diamond Ring,” “Count Me In” and “She’s Just My Style.”  Lou Christie also enjoyed great success with such hits as “Lightnin’ Strikes,” “Two Faces Have I” and “Rhapsody in the Rain.”      Two bonus shows have been added to the 10th anniversary season.  The bonus shows in the University Series include A Salute to Our Nation’s Veterans Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. and the Choral Masterworks Festival on Sunday, March 12, 2006 , at 3 p.m.   Back by popular demand, the Troy University Symphony Band and conductor Ralph Ford will present a stirring tribute to our armed forces with a variety of works by great American composers.  The University Series will close with the Troy University Choral Masterwork Festival under the direction of Paul McGahie.  Collegiate singers and a professional orchestra from across the southeast will gather together to perform a major choral-orchestral masterwork for the first time in the Troy University ’s Davis Theatre.  

All productions for the 10th Annual Season Subscriber Series are presented in Troy University ’s Davis Theatre, which is located in downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street , and have a 7 p.m. curtain time unless noted.  A season ticket to all eight productions ranges in price from $85 to $165.  For more information on the upcoming theatre season, please call the office at (334) 241-9567.  Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 12 Noon .
