Sheri Macomber wins June McKinley Award at Troy University

TROY , Ala. Sheri Macomber, departmental secretary for the Troy University School of Nursing, is the winner of the university’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award for June.

Macomber, who has been a member of the Troy University staff since 2001, received the award at a ceremony June 8 in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on the Troy Campus. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., chancellor of Troy University , presented the award to Macomber, who was nominated by Dr. Donna Bedsole, director of the associate of science nursing degree program.

The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.

A letter of nomination by Bedsole praised Macomber for the enthusiasm and energy she brings to her job.

“One of Sheri’s most important traits is her courtesy toward every faculty member, staff person and student,” the letter said. “She always attempts to find an answer to every question. Sheri exhibits exceptional telephone etiquette and possess outstanding leadership skills. She is always willing to go above and beyond her the duties in her job description.”

Macomber, who works on the University’s Montgomery Campus, resides in Montgomery .
