TROY – Troy University is well-represented at this year’s Miss Alabama contest where three former Miss Troy Universities will join the reigning queen Avington Hart June 8 -11.
It’s the first time in the pageant’s history the University has been so well-represented said Brenda Campbell, who helps coordinates the
Miss
Troy
University
pageant.
“It speaks well of our program to see so many of our ladies vying for the title of Miss
Alabama
in one year. I wish them all the best of luck,” she said.
The Miss Alabama program began in 1921.
Hart, 20, is the reigning
Miss
Troy
University
and hails from Evergreen. She is a senior pursuing a bachelor of science degree in history and hopes to pursue a master’s degree in history education. Her platform is “Volunteer—Share Your Heart.”
Miss Troy State University 2001 Kelly Hawkins, 23, is a graduate of
Troy
University
where she majored in English. Competing as Miss Gadsden Area, Hawkins is currently a graduate student at the
University
of
Alabama
at
Birmingham
where she is majoring in counseling. Her platform is “Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention” and is the daughter of University Chancellor Dr.
Jack Hawkins
Jr. and Janice Hawkins of
Troy
.
Miss Troy State University 2003 Amy Philips-Redclift, 24, now makes her home in
Birmingham
and is competing in this year’s Miss
Alabama
as Miss Logan Martin. She completed a bachelor’s degree at
TROY
and began work on her master of public administration degree at
TROY
, completing it at the
University
of
Alabama
at
Birmingham
. Her platform is “Turning Disabilities into Possibilities.”
Miss Troy State University 2004 Erin Turner, 20, is a senior at the University majoring in communication arts with a dramatic arts tract with a minor in dance. From
Hoover
, her platform is “ArtStart
Alabama
,” a non-profit organization designed to allow schools to identify and communicate their needs to the community so that the public can get involved through volunteerism.
