Summer choir will showcase their talent on June 28

TROY -- The Troy University Summer Choir will be joined by the Alabama Jubilee Chorus to perform a free concert at Sorrell Chapel on Tuesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Summer Choir is made up of students and faculty who are taking vocal classes or are just interested in singing.

The concert is an eclectic one featuring four old English “catches” which are multi-part rounds in which one part begins and then the other parts ‘catch’ them and continue,” said Dr. Catherine Allard, director of the summer choir.  “Row, Row, Row Your Boat is a simple example of this type of song,” she said.

Other songs that the choir will sing include “What Wondrous Love Is This” and the folk song “Winter’s Night.”  The Southern folk song “Charlottown” will be combined with “Daddy Sang Bass” and Broadway songs “The Lullaby of Broadway” and “Hernando’s Hideaway” will be featured.

William Boyce’s “Alleluia” will end the Summer Choir’s part of the program.

The Alabama Jubilee Chorus will help entertain the audience by singing four-part close harmony in barbershop style.  Songs they will sing include, “Ida”, “Wait ‘til the sun shines, Nellie,” “Shine on, harvest moon,”  “My Guy” and “I’ll fly away.”

“It will be a light evening of summer musical fun,” said Allard.

The concert is free to the public and scheduled to entertain the audience for about an hour.
