Troy University to host Humanities Foundation Summer Institute
   

TROY , Ala. -- Troy University will play host to “Grand Tour IV: Language through Culture,” a summer institute for K-12 and pre-service teachers of French, German, Latin and Spanish, July 10-16.

The event, which is partially funded by a federal “No Child Left Behind” grant, is one of three summer institutes sponsored by the Alabama Humanities Foundation.

Participants will use their target language to explore the connections between culture, history, language and its speakers, enabling them to take more rounded approaches in the foreign language classroom.

Speakers for the institute are:

  • French -- Lydia Gilkey, Alabama School of Mathematics and Science and Dr. Elizabeth Combier, North Georgia College and State University;
  • German – Dr. Gamin G. Bartle, University of Alabama ;
  • Latin – Dr. Peter N. Howard, Troy University , and Patsy Ricks, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School;
  • Spanish – Dr. Gonzalo Isidro-Bruno, Indiana University and Dr. Fernando Palacios, University of Alabama-Birmingham .
