TROY – Children ages four-and-a-half and up will find fun and learning this summer at
Troy University’s “Kids Kollege.”
Sponsored by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion, the Alabama Institute for Sports & Fitness Management and Troy Bank & Trust, the summer workshops offer children a chance to learn in the classroom and in sports-related activities.
In most cases, said Glenda Locklar, who helps coordinate the summer program, the classes are suited for elementary-aged children and meet Monday through Thursday in 50-minute blocks. Two summer terms run from June 8 through July 28.
Registration for Kids Kollege Term 1 is June 2 -3 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with registration closed from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. both days. Registration for Term 2 classes is July 7 – 8.
Classes available in Term 1, which runs from June 8 through June 23 with 10 class meetings, are:
Beginning swimming in the Lee Natatorium (ages 4 ½ and up) for a fee of $40 plus $20 Natatorium fee for the first child ($5 additional for each child). There are two class options, the first at 8 a.m.; the second at 9 a.m.
Guard Start Class (ages 11-14; must have completed 5th grade) for a fee of $25 per child plus a participant’s kit for $7.50 and Natatorium fees. This class is offered at 9 a.m.
Beginning Clog Dance (ages 5 and up), for a fee of $40 per child, is offered at 10 a.m.
Beginning Tennis (ages 8 -12), for a fee of $40 per child, is offered at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. Participants must furnish their own rackets.
Monster Mathematics (ages 11 and up) will focus on beginning Algebra concepts in the Math and Science Complex at 10 a.m. The fee for this class is $40.

Fabulous Fractions (ages 8 and up) will examine the basic skills of adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying fractions at 11 a.m. The fee for this course is $40.
Classes available in Term 2, which runs from July 13 – July 28 for 10 class meetings, are:

Chess (ages 8 to 18) meets in McCartha Hall at 9 a.m. for a fee of $40 per child.
Spanning both Term 1 and Term 2 are the following classes:
Junior Detective (ages 6 -11) will explore the world of criminal investigation and participants will graduate from the Junior Detective
Academy. This class meets at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Math and Science Complex for a fee of $40.
Foundations of Art (ages 8 – 13) will teach active participation in the creation of artwork and provide the opportunity to learn significant attributes of art. This class meets at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays for a fee of $40.
Making Learning Fun (ages 5 -12) will help students enhance their interest and understanding in math, science and social studies at 11 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays for a $40 fee.
