TROY – Troy University broadcasting students have garnered five of seven first place awards in regional National Broadcasting Society competition.
Among the top TROY award winners were TrojanVision Nightly News, Erica Proffer for an entry in the TV documentary production divisions, Christie Hegwood in the TV news package division, Jonathan Sellers in the TV feature segment division, and Mark Vaughn in the TV sports package division.
“The first-place awards will now go into the national competition,” said Dr. Jeff Spurlock, an assistant professor of journalism who heads the TROY NBS chapter.
Spurlock said the University’s entries competed in NBS’ Redion 3, consisting of universities and colleges in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. The winners of the national competition will be announced in March at the NBS national convention.
Proffer is a senior from Echo. Her Best TV Documentary dealt with “The Job Application Process.”
Hegwood is a junior from Dothan. Her Best TV News Package dealt with “Preparations for Hurricane Arlene.”
Sellers is a junior from Mobile. His Best TV Feature Segment was “Trojan Football Preview.”
Vaughn is a junior from Mobile. His Best TV Sports Package dealt with the injury of Trojan football player Luverne Johnson.
