TROY – Troy University will celebrate the customs of India and Nepal when the Indian Student Association and the Nepal Student Association jointly hosts the “Festival of Lights” on Nov. 1.
The festival will be in the amphitheater behind the Trojan Center and begins at 6:30 p.m.
The festival, known as Diwali in India and Tihar in Nepal, includes regional Indian and Nealese dances, food and explanations of the celebration. Central to the celebration will be lights of many kinds.
“In both India and Nepal, the festival signifies the renewal of life and, accordingly, it is common to wear new clothes and exchange sweets on the day of the festival,” said Debbie Davis, TROY’s director of international student life.
Tickets are $6 for students and $10 for general admission. They may be purchased at the International Office. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Trojan Arena.
