Troy
University
faculty member Larry Percy has been selected as the Alabama Art Education Association's Higher Education Art Educator of the Year.
Percy, assistant professor of art and design, will now be eligible to compete for the National Art Education Association's Southeastern Region Higher Education Art Educator of the Year.
The Alabama Art Education Association is a professional organization of art educators dedicated to advocating art education by following national standards, providing membership services, professional growth and leadership opportunities.
“I am very honored and humbled to receive this award,” Percy said. “Arriving here four years ago, I had no idea of the opportunities and the impact that needed to be made in the areas of visual arts and art education. I would have to say that my students won this award for me, because they have worked very hard beyond the bounds of any class or course to advocate and support quality art education in this region.”
Prior to coming to
Troy
, Percy spent 16 years teaching art in public schools in
Kansas
and
Oklahoma
.
Percy received his master’s degree in fine arts from the
University
of
Kansas
and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from
Southwestern
Oklahoma
State
University
.
He and his wife, Annie, have two sons, Brice and Tyler.
