Thoroughly Modern Millie Sings, Dances and Romances its way to Troy University's Davis Theatre

Montgomery , AL The National Touring Company of Thoroughly Modern Millie will make its Montgomery premiere at Troy University ’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts for one evening only on Saturday, Oct. 8 beginning at 7 p.m.   This production is sponsored by the Troy University Alumni Association – Montgomery Chapter.

Thoroughly Modern Millie
is a high-spirited musical romp featuring two songs from the original 1967 film, four standards from the 1920s and nine new songs written by Jeanine Tesori (composer) and Dick Scanlan (lyrics). This bright, new, Broadway extravaganza takes place in 1922 Manhattan during the time of jazz, speakeasies and moonshine. Midwestern girl Millie Dillmount makes her way to New York City in search of love and a “modern marriage.” Rewriting all the rules of love, Thoroughly Modern Millie has all of New York dancing the Charleston and is filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess that audiences will love to hate.

The winner of six Tony awards including Best Musical and Best Orchestration, Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the Oscar-winning film of the same name.  Directed and choreographed by two-time Tony award nominee (Smokey Joe's Café, The Life) Joey McKneely, Thoroughly Modern Millie takes audiences back to the time of the great American musical. McKneely's most recent Broadway choreography credit The Boy from Oz earned star Hugh Jackman a Tony award. McKneely has worked as performer, choreographer and/or director on a broad range of international stage, television and film credits including Hope and Faith and Zoolander.
