TROY, Ala. – Patsy Brown, departmental secretary for the School of Accountancy at Troy University, has won the University’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award for March.
Brown received the award during a ceremony on March 29 in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on the Troy Campus. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., chancellor, presented the award to Brown, who was nominated by Dr. Steve Grice, interim director of the School of Accountancy.
The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.
In a letter of nomination, Grice praised Brown for her “significant contributions” to the Sorrell College of Business and the School of Accountancy.
“Patsy exhibits the highest level of moral character and work ethic in all aspects of her job,” Grice said. “She exemplifies the qualities of dependability, patience, commitment and positive attitude in her job responsibilities and her relationships with others. Patsy is always willing to accept challenges and work above and beyond expectations to benefit the School of Accountancy. The Troy University School of Accountancy is very fortunate to be associated with Patsy.”
Brown was surprised to receive the award. “I am truly honored,” she said. “I work with some really great people. Dr. Grice is the best.”
Brown and her husband Danny make their home in Troy.
