TROY – Two Troy University organizations will take stands against violence on April 13 with a pair of programs designed to educate and raise awareness among students, faculty and staff.
The SAVE (Sexual Assault and Violence Education) Project will present its annual “These Hands Don’t Hurt” campaign from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 13 in the amphitheater on the Troy Campus. Faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to place their hand prints on a display, signifying their commitment against violence. This event has been planned in conjunction with national Sexual Assault Awareness month and will be a part of the University Activities Council’s annual Spring Fling.
“This event is an attempt to create awareness of violence and related issues and to get faculty, staff and students to commit to taking a stand on violence of any form,” said Jenny Duncan, SAVE Project assistant coordinator.
The Women’s Initiative will present the 2nd annual “Take Back the Night” march beginning at 7 p.m. on April 13. The march will begin at the Trojan warrior fountain on the Bibb Graves Quadrangle and end at the amphitheater where there will then be an open microphone, poetry session and opportunity for those affected by violence to give personal testimonies.
“By marching, we take a stand to raise awareness to stop the violence,” said Rhonda Sanders, president of the Women’s Initiative.
