Alabama Power Company official to deliver commencement address at Troy University
   

Montgomery, Ala. – Gordon G. Martin, Vice President of the Southern Division of Alabama Power Company, will deliver the graduation address at Troy University’s spring commencement on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts on the University’s Montgomery Campus.

Martin is responsible for Alabama Power’s operations in parts of 19 counties in South Central Alabama, including Montgomery. Southern Division’s 660 employees serve approximately 220,000 homes and businesses.

Martin previously served as the company’s lead lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Before joining Alabama Power, Martin was a legislative lawyer with Hogan & Hartson, Washington D.C.’s largest law firm, and a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Howell Heflin.

A native of Birmingham, Martin graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama, where he was elected President of the Student Government Association. He earned a law degree from the University of Alabama; and a master’s degree from the George Washington University. He also attended Georgetown University.

In the area of economic development, Martin serves as Chairman of the Board of the Montgomery Riverfront Development Foundation and on the Executive Committee of Board of Directors of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce.

Martin plays a leadership role at numerous charitable and civic organizations. He serves as Vice President of the Board of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The American Village, the YMCA of Montgomery, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Foundation, the Montgomery Symphony and the Capital City Club.
