Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts announces
2006-2007 seasons

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Season tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 7, for Troy University’s Davis Theatre’s 2006-2007 season, which will feature six professional touring productions and three bonus University events.

The Theatre’s season will open on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with Shirley Jones in Concert.  Jones may best be remembered as the leading lady in many well-loved movie musical blockbusters including Oklahoma, Carousel and The Music Man as well as being on television’s The Partridge Family.

The second offering on Friday, Nov. 3, will be Three on a String, which is back by popular demand.  Celebrating 35 years in entertainment, this talented trio’s homespun harmonies weave their way through a variety of music including standards, country, bluegrass and folk.

On Thursday, Dec. 7, Holiday Dazzle will be sure to delight the young at heart.  This singing and dancing musical revue will present a delightful variety of holiday entertainment including costumed carolers and Rockette-style dancers kicking up their heels.

For the next offering of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 30, the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will take the audience on a rainbow ride through Biblical Egypt on the wings of Andrew Lloyd Webber's uplifting music and the humor and poetry of lyricist Tim Rice.

On Friday, Feb. 16, the season will continue with the lovely and lyrical musical Camelot.  Based on T. H. White’s popular novel The Once and Future King, the tale focuses on King Arthur’s later years and the love triangle between King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and Sir Lancelot.  The season will close on Friday, March 9, with the exciting sounds of A Musical Salute to Doo Wop:  A Tribute Concert Featuring Elsbeary Hobbs’ Drifters, The Platters and Cornell Gunter’s Coasters.  Join these talented performers for a musical tribute that made the 50s a truly great era in American music with such memorable songs as “Only You,” “Save the Last Dance for Me” and “Love Potion Number Nine.”

Three bonus shows have been added to the season of entertainment in the newly expanded University Series which features performances from Troy University students and faculty.  The University Series consists of A Salute to Our Nation’s Veterans Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 14; Raymond Smith and Jazz Comes Home on Tuesday, Jan. 16; and the musical Nunsense on Tuesday, May 8.

All productions for the Season Subscriber Series and University Series are presented in Troy University’s Davis Theatre, which is located in downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street, and have a 7 p.m. curtain time.  A season ticket to all nine productions ranges in price from $85 to $165.  For more information on the upcoming Theatre’s season, please call the office at (334) 241-9567.  Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. - Noon.
