TROY – Troy University has received accreditation from a national organization for counseling programs on its Montgomery Campus.
The agency, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), has accredited the master’s degree programs in community counseling and school counseling through October 2014.
“This is an important accomplishment for the University,” said Dr. Ed Roach, executive vice chancellor and provost. “We appreciate all of the work faculty and staff members put into this process. Ultimately, our students in Montgomery become better community and school counselors through the accreditation process.”
CACREP accredited the counseling programs on the Troy Campus in 2005, and on the Phenix City Campus in 1999.
“This type of specialized accreditation is the standard within that area of education,” Dr. Lance Tatum, interim dean of the College of Education, said. “The faculty and staff on Montgomery Campus has demonstrated their desire to operate within those guidelines and it speaks well of that campus.”
Dr. Len Kitchens, associate dean, College of Education, congratulated the Counseling Department at the Montgomery campus for successfully completing the accreditation process.
The accreditation process for the school and community counseling programs were led by Dr. Nancy Crumpton, chair of the Counseling Department, and was assisted by the counseling faculty, Dr. Eddie Clark, Dr. Kenyon Knapp and Dr. Robin Williams.
CACREP is an independent agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit master’s degree programs in: career counseling, college counseling, community counseling, marital, couple, and family counseling/therapy, mental health counseling, school counseling, student affairs, doctoral degree programs, and counselor education and supervision.
