DOTHAN – Area middle school students will compete for trophies and a chance to advance to the state level during the annual MATHCOUNTS competition at Troy University. The math contest, which is sponsored by the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers and hosted by Polyengineering of Dothan, will take place Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to noon in Malone Hall on the Dothan Campus.
Students from Cottonwood High School and Abbeville, D.A. Smith, Greenville and Samson Middle Schools will test their skills. The top four teams advance to the next round of competition, along with the top three individuals.
MATHCOUNTS is a national program which promotes middle school math achievement. It challenges students’ math skills and rewards their accomplishments, while helping them build self-confidence.
