Troy University students win art and design honors

TROY, Ala. – Ten Troy University students have been named award winners in Creative Quarterly’s fifth annual Student Competition and will have their work featured in an upcoming edition of the arts and design journal.

Creative Quarterly, formerly Creative Convocation, is a publication for college art students and art departments. It reaches more than 1,400 colleges and universities, showcasing the best student-produced work.

Contest entries from students throughout the United States and Canada were judged by leading professionals in four disciplines – graphic design, illustration, fine arts and photography. The winning entries will be featured in the publication’s fifth issue.

Jerry Johnson, chair of the University’s Department of Art and Design, said the recognition received by the students is well deserved.

“This is allowing our studio art majors to gain well deserved national recognition. In competitions such as this one, our students are competing against well-known art and professional schools, as well as other universities,” Johnson said. “Our mixed media work is receiving a lot of attention. Our students are doing some remarkable work.”

TROY students winning honors in the illustration category were Grant Johnson and Sheetal Donahue, both of Troy. Johnson is a senior majoring in art, while Donahue is a senior graphic design major.

Eight students took honors in the fine arts category. The students, their hometown, classifications and majors are: Natasha Williams of Troy, a senior, art; Joe Lovitte of Mobile, a senior, art; Melissa Redden of Enterprise, a senior, art education; Lacey Bassett of Troy, a senior, graphic design; Stephanie Ward of Abbeville, a senior, art; Amber Whitaker of Daleville, a senior, art education; Kellie Newsome of Troy, a senior, art; and, Allison Perelli of Dothan, a senior, art.
