TROY – Troy University’s Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium will rock with the sounds of champion drum and bugle corps at 7 p.m. July 25 as the Drum Corps International competition gets underway at the Trojan Summer Music Games.
“It’s a great honor to bring such high quality showmanship to our area,” said Dr. Ginger Zingara, director of the event. “With the World Championship shortly following our show, these corps will be at their top shape of the season.”
The corps use only brass, percussion and auxiliaries to create an exciting blend of music and choreography. Each corps is composed of students ages 14 to 22 who are chosen through auditions. Scoring is Olympic style with gold, silver and bronze medals presented. Show themes will vary from The Godfather to jazz, rock, gospel, show tunes and classical music.
In addition, the public can attend a free clinic with the World Champion Blue Devils from Concord, Calif. from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium. The other corps in attendance are: Crossmen from Allentown, Penn.; Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, Calif.; Seattle Cascades from Shoreline, Wash.; Spirit from JSU from Jacksonville, Ala.; Teal Sound from Jacksonville, Fla. and The Magic from Kissimmee, Fla.
Tickets may be purchased by calling toll-free at 1-877-878-9487. All seats are general admission for $20 and $15 for groups of 25 or more. Additional information on the event can be found at http://music.troy.edu/ or call 334-670-3281.
