Wiregrass Math & Science Consortium to Discuss Workforce Development

DOTHAN – The Wiregrass Math & Science Consortium will host a panel discussion June 29 at Troy University on the topic “Educating Today’s Students for Tomorrow.” The workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. in Sony Hall on the Dothan Campus.

A panel of five experts will discuss workforce development and the benefits of using the inquiry approach to educating students, according to Sandy Armstrong, co-director of the Wiregrass Math & Science Consortium. Teachers, pre-service teachers, parents, members of the business community and the public are invited to attend the free seminar.

“The purpose of using the inquiry approach is to get kids to think and work cooperatively in the classroom,” Armstrong said, “so we can better prepare them for the workforce.”

Panel participants will include representatives from the National Aerospace Development Center, the Alabama Math Science Technology Education Coalition, the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and Troy University.

Each year, the Wiregrass Math & Science Consortium sponsors Aerospace Day at Troy University. The Consortium also provides professional training for Alabama teachers and equipment for their classrooms. The program is funded by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.

For more information about the panel discussion or the Consortium, contact Christina Johnson or Sandy Armstrong at Troy University at (334) 983-6556, ext. 1-371.
