Troy University to hold sixth annual St. Patrick's Day Parade March 11

TROY, Ala.–Troy University is seeking participants for its sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade, which is one of the highlights of the University’s annual Irish Week celebration, will begin at noon on Saturday, March 11.

Participants may enter a St. Patrick’s Day-themed float, car, truck, golf cart or scooter or may walk in the parade. Participants are also encouraged to “throw” items such as green beads, shamrocks or green derbies.

“This day is all about fun, so don’t get caught up in some elaborate entry,” said Buddy Starling, parade coordinator.

According to Starling, the parade route will be along the portion of University Avenue that runs through the Troy Campus and instructions on the parade line-up will be provided after participants have reserved their spot.

The day will also include the Nick Costes 5K/10K Race beginning at 8 a.m., a Preview Day for prospective students and their parents beginning at 9 a.m., tailgating on Tailgate Terrace beginning at 12:30 p.m. along with a live band for entertainment, and a TROY Trojans spring football scrimmage at 2 p.m. in Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium. The day’s events kick off a week of Irish-themed activities on the Troy Campus, including a Pot of Gold search and an Irish Cooking Contest.

For additional information or to reserve your organization’s spot in the parade, please contact Buddy Starling at 334-670-3243.
