TROY, Ala.—The Pike County Chamber of Commerce’s 2005-2006 Leadership Pike class will sponsor Shamrockin’ 2006 on Saturday, March 11 in conjunction with Troy University’s Spring Reunion/Irish Week activities.
The event, which is set for 7 p.m. at the Stadium Club on the fourth floor of the Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium press box tower, will feature the band Lisa and the E-LUSIONS. In addition to live entertainment, the event also will feature food, beverages and prizes to be given away.
Tickets for the event are $35 for individuals and $50 for couples with proceeds going to benefit the organization’s scholarship fund for Pike County students. Tickets are available by calling the Chamber office at 334-566-2294.
Since 2003, Leadership Pike has awarded $13,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors from Pike County.
“The Leadership Pike class is made up of business leaders or up and coming business leaders in our community,” said Jenniffer Barner, chamber president. “For the most part they have all had a college experience and know what the burdens can be financially. The class works hard to put on a fun, profitable event so that the community has an opportunity to see what they can do as a team and help some worthy students all at the same time.”
Chris Foster, a 2005 recipient, said the scholarship provided a “huge boost.”
“The scholarship has helped out with buying books, covering fees and a lot of the things you don’t even know you’re going to need,” Foster said.
Melody Rogers, who also received a Leadership Pike scholarship in 2005, encouraged the community to support the fundraising effort. “You don’t think about all you need. Earning the scholarship really kept me focused that yes, I can go to college,” she said. “I would encourage the community to support their fundraiser.”
