TROY – The Troy University Hall School of Journalism will conduct its annual M. Stanton Evans Symposium on April 6 in the Trojan Center Ballrooms.
A 9 a.m. reception begins the symposium and a panel discussion titled “Passport to PR – Reporting” begins at 9:30 a.m. Panelists for the topic are four former editors of the University’s student newspaper, The Tropolitan: Cinnamon Bair, Susan Delenne, Bethany Dye and Lance Wallace. Each will share unique insights on the interaction of public relations professionals and the media, why knowing how the media works helps PR professionals and why reporting is an excellent background for the PR field.
“There’s no substitute for experience, and the panel members this year have got it,” Chris Warden, a TROY journalism professor who coordinates the symposium. “They will be able to share their valuable insights on reporting, public relations and the interplay between the two.”
Bair, a 1993 TROY graduate, is currently the publications coordinator at the University of Florida.
Delenne, a 1979 TROY graduate, now is the director of corporate communications for Alagasco.
Dye, a 2005 TROY graduate, is currently working for Alabama Electric Cooperative as an information specialist.
Wallace, a 1992 TROY graduate, is currently the associate coordinator of communications for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
An awards dinner at 7 p.m. concludes the symposium.
Evans, adjunct professor for the Hall School of Journalism since 1980, graduated from Yale University with an English degree. He has held many prestigious positions in the journalism industry including editor of the Indianapolis News for 15 years, director of the National Journalism Center columnist of the Los Angeles Times, and national commentator for CBS Radio News and National Public Radio. He is also the author of eight books, the last being “The Theme is Freedom.”
