Troy University endowed scholarship to honor Mrs. Brunson

ELBA—The Troy University Elba Club has created its first endowed scholarship and has named it for Elba resident Edna Allen Brunson.

Mrs. Brunson, who graduated from TROY in 1948, is an active member of the Elba Club. She recently presented the first Edna Allen Brunson Endowed Scholarship to Brittany Hudson of Elba High School.

“While many of our alumni chapters provide scholarships to deserving students, the Elba Club is the first chapter to create an endowed scholarship,” said Dr. Cameron Martindale, senior vice chancellor for advancement and external relations.

Dr. Martindale urged other alumni chapters to consider following Elba’s lead and creating endowed scholarships of their own.

“Since the Elba-Troy Club was founded in 1999, one of its main goals has been to create an endowed scholarship,” said Juli Parrish, president of the club. “The beauty of an endowed scholarship is that it will last forever.”

Parrish said that fund-raising for the scholarship had been ongoing for several years, but a donation made last year by Jack Brunson of Elba put the club over the top. Mr. Brunson died last year, but not before the scholarship plans were made final, Parrish added.

“Mr. Brunson’s generosity made the scholarship possible,” Parrish said. “We are proud to name the scholarship in honor of his wife. The endowment will be a lasting tribute to the Brunsons’ generosity and community involvement.”
