TROY – Sixteen high school and middle school bands will join Troy University’s “Sound of the South” for the conclusion of the halftime performance during the TROY-University of Louisiana-Monroe football game on Saturday. Kickoff for the game is set for 3 p.m.
Mark Walker, associate director of bands at TROY, said the halftime presentation will begin with music by the “Sound of the South” marching band and will end with 1,500 high school and middle school students joining forces to perform a 1970s medley, arranged by director for the school of music Larry Blocher, and “My Home’s in Alabama,” arranged by director of bands Ralph Ford.
“This is a great recruiting experience because it allows us to get high school and middle school students on campus,” Walker said.
Bands participating in the eighth annual event are: Zion Chapel High School; Pell City High School; Dale County High School; Verbena High School; Bay High School, Panama City, Fla.; Luverne High School; Escambia County High School; Florala High School; St. Paul’s Episcopal School; Clarke County High School; Marion County High School, Buena Vista (Ga.); Highland Home School; Geneva High School; Thomasville High School; Brantley High School and Samson High School.
