October 10, 2006 Troy University begins theatre season with The Women of Lockerbie TROY – The Women of Lockerbie will hit the Troy University stage on October 19, 20, 21 and 24. The Women of Lockerbie is written by Deborah Brevoort whose inspiration came from the Pan Am 103 plane crash in Lockerbie, Scotland. This incident is considered the deadliest terrorist attack on American civilians until the attacks of September 11. On Dec. 21, 1988, the Pan American World Airways Boeing 747-121, named the “Clipper Maid of the Seas,” was destroyed by plastic explosives as it flew over Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, killing 270 people from 21 countries, including 11 residents of Lockerbie. Of that number, 189 were American citizens, including 35 students from Syracuse University and two from the State University of New York. The play was awarded the silver medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition in 2001. The Women of Lockerbie will be directed by Adena Moree, Troy University’s Director of Theatre. Assistant Director and Choreographer is Tori Lee. Thomas Newman will be composing the play. Sound, scenic and lighting design is by Chris Rich and costume design is by Brittany Dee Bodley and John Patton. The Women of Lockerbie will take place in the Trojan Center Theatre.
