TROY to hold voter registration drive Oct. 18

TROY – Troy University’s student government will host a voter registration drive for all students, faculty and staff on Oct. 18 at the Adams Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to Barbara Patterson, director of student involvement and leadership, this drive is one of many for TROY’s Student Government Association.

“We have registration drives at least once a semester and always have forms in the office for those who wish to register,” Patterson said.

Patterson said the SGA is encouraged by and works in accordance with Alabama’s Secretary of State and the Pike County Board of Register to register TROY’s publics.

Although student government hopes to increase the number of registered voters on campus, TROY’s SGA Clerk Rob Drinkard said the main goal is to encourage voter awareness of upcoming elections.

“The 18-24 age group is the largest percentage of non-registered voters.  Hopefully, we can encourage people to register and vote by letting them know their participation can change the outcome of an election,” Drinkard said.
