Stacy Warren Wins October McKinley Award at Troy University

TROY, Ala. – Stacy Warren, eArmyU Distance Learning Coordinator of TROY’s Southeast region, has won the University’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award for October.

Warren, who has been a part of the Troy University staff since 2001, received the award during an Oct. 17 ceremony in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on the Troy Campus.  Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., TROY chancellor, presented the award to Warren, who was nominated by Donna Darling, eArmyU site director of TROY’s Southeast Region.

The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.

In a letter of nomination, Darling said Warren shows tremendous initiative on a daily basis and is vital to the University’s work with the military. Troy University is the second largest education provider in the eArmyU program, which is the Army’s laptop program serving active duty military members around the world.

“She has taken the initiative to learn every aspect of the eArmyU process,” Darling said.  “She has learned each and every job and is therefore able to help everyone in times of overload.  The creation of the new GoArmyEd portal has presented new challenges for the eArmyU office.  Ms. Warren has taken it upon herself to assist in the implementation of new processes, coordination with numerous Troy University sites and personnel.”

Darling said Warren, a Columbus, Ga. resident, has made “communication between GoArmyEd and Troy University more productive.”

“Ms. Warren is very deserving of recognition for her tireless work in making the eArmyU office successful for Troy University.”

Warren, who attended the ceremony with her husband Dusty, said she was honored to receive the award.

“I am extremely grateful to receive this award and also for the support that we receive from the administration,” Warren said. “We could not do our job without the tremendous support and vision the administration has for providing educational opportunities for our military personnel. This is truly one great university.”
