TROY, Ala.– A Troy University honor society has been named one of only 40 outstanding chapters to receive a prestigious national award for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Troy University’s Spires chapter of Mortar Board was presented with the Silver Torch Award at the organization’s national conference in Columbus, Ohio. This award is presented to chapters which exemplify the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.
“We are very excited about this award because we had a good group of very involved students who did a lot of activities, including collecting school supplies for Hurricane Katrina evacuees and books for the Pike County Advocacy Center,” said Brenda Campbell, Mortar Board chapter advisor.
Mortar Board is a national honor society which recognizes college seniors for their distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. It is a national network that include over 200 chapters, 50 alumni chapters, and 25 sections. Since 1918, over 226,000 college seniors have been initiated into the Mortar Board tradition of scholarship, leadership, and service.
