Troy University’s SAVE Project to help students ‘Battle the Blues’

TROY, Ala. – Troy University’s Sexual Assault and Violence Education (SAVE) Project will seek to help educate students about their mental health when the organization presents its annual “Battle the Blues” week Oct. 16-20 on the Troy Campus.

The SAVE Project will be offering free confidential mental health screenings to Troy University students from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 18 in the Trojan Center Ballroom B.  Health professionals will be on hand to provide resources and literature and to speak with students.

“We try to educate students on the importance of taking care of their mental health by offering free and confidential screenings for a range of common emotional conditions that often go undiagnosed and are misunderstood,” said Jenny Duncan, counselor and assistant coordinator of the SAVE Project. “It is also a great opportunity for students to learn about what services are available to them on campus.”

During October, SAVE also will be spreading awareness among the University
community about domestic violence in conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Duncan said SAVE will work to increase awareness of domestic violence by placing banners purple ribbons around campus, along with passing out purple bracelets.

The SAVE Project is designed to promote change and raise awareness among the campus community and help students who have been directly affected by sexual violence. SAVE is dedicated to the prevention of sexual assault and harassment and to the growth of healthy male-female relationships on campus.
