TROY – Troy University’s University Theatre opens its season Oct. 5 with “Lunchtime Cabaret,” one of several new innovations within the theater department.
Troy University Theatre’s first Lunchtime Cabaret will feature a meal and several top-notch entertainers. The event is scheduled for 12 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. Tickets are on sale now in the Trojan Center Box Office for $12.
“This season is different from last year because the department is implementing a few changes to the usual fall schedule,” said Adena Moree, the theater department’s director.
Among those changes is a new residence, an upstairs theatre and a design and technology lab in Malone Hall.
Another addition to the fall lineup is the production of The Women of Lockerbie that delves into the bombing of a Pan American Airlines flight over Lockerbie, Scotland. The production features a musical score written by TROY alumnus Thomas Newman, who recently completed a master of fine arts degree at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Tori Lee, also a Troy University graduate, has returned to complete her degree in theater and to gain more experience before pursuing her graduate degree. She will be directing a studio show in Malone Hall’s new upstairs theatre later in the season.
Another change for the department is the production of two musical comedies in repertory in April. Those productions will be Forever Plaid and Nunsense. Both shows also feature a gourmet meal.
In November, the department will be presenting Page to Stage, a collage of scenes, monologues and songs ranging from classical to contemporary. These productions will take place in the Trojan Center Theatre.
Summer of 2007 will also bring Damn Yankees, a musical comedy based on Douglass Wallop's novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant. This productions in scheduled to run in early July.
