MEDIA ADVISORY : Hall-Waters Prize

Monday, October 2

U.S. Rep. John Lewis, a south Alabama sharecropper’s son who became a leader in the U.S. civil rights movement and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will receive the fourth Hall-Waters Prize from Troy University at 7 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms on Oct. 2. The Hall-Waters Prize is endowed by TROY alumnus Dr. Wade Hall, an author, former member of the faculty at the University of Florida and professor emeritus of English at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Dr. Hall, a native of Bullock County, endowed the prize as a memorial to his parents, Wade Hall Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Waters Hall. The award is presented annually to a person who has made significant contributions to Southern heritage and culture in history, literature or the arts. Rep. Lewis should be available following the ceremony. He will also be conducting a book signing following the ceremony.

Sunday, October 1

The Chinese Student Association will conduct a flag-raising ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Nolan Hatcher International Gateway at the Rotary International Student Center at Pace Hall on the Troy Campus in recognition of Chinese National Day. Thirteen Chinese students will make their debut as the CSA Flag Corps at this ceremony.

Thursday, September 28

The Hall School of Journalism will host the annual Alabama High School Journalism Workshop beginning at 8:30 a.m. Media covering this event are asked to go to the Journalism School. The sessions, which begin at 9 a.m. are split between the school and the Trojan Center. The Hall School of Journalism is located on the first floor of Wallace Hall.
