TROY hosts 3rd Annual Sports Management conference
   

TROY – Troy University alumna Danielle Frye, pit reporter for the MRN Radio team since 2003 and former NASCAR senior manager of communications, will headline the University’s 3rd Annual Southern Sport Management Conference April 5-6.

The conference, held in the Stadium Tower of Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium, begins at 12 p.m. April 5, and targets students, faculty and sports management professional.

Frye, a native of Pell City who currently resides in Mooresville, N.C. with her husband Jay and daughter Addison, will speak to the conference at 3:30 p.m. April 5 in Tine W. Davis Field House’s Rane Auditorium.

Other speakers on Thursday include: Barry Dean, executive director of the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association; Dr. Dan Drane, assistant professor of coaching and sports administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, Marc T. Riker, executive director of Alabama Sports Festival, and Dr. David “Bucky” Wagner, associate professor of sport science and physical education at Georgia Southern University and a former GSU athletic director and president of the NCAA Division I-AA Athletic Directors Association.

Friday’s session begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes presentations by Newberry College assistant volleyball coach Cody McMurtry and Rebekah Dixon, head cross country coach at Newberry, Ron Dickerson, athletic director at Alabama State University, Dr. Damon Andrew, a University of Tennessee professor in exercise, sport and leisure studies, Terry Collins, a representative of Screen Tech Apparel, Russ Campbell, Dr. Robert Zullo, an assistant professor of sports administration at Mississippi State University, City of Troy Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith, Dr. Drane and a panel discussion let by sports commentators John Longshore, Phil Paramore and Barry McKnight.
