TROY’s John M. Long School of Music hosts summer music camp

TROY – Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music will host the 2007 Summer Music Camp June 17 – 21 for students entering 8th through 12th grades.

This year’s camp offers concert and music theory, percussion, majorette, colorguard, dance and drum major classes.

“We have notable instructors for each of these camps and we look forward to a fun and informative week for all our students,” said Dr. Mark Walker, associate director of bands.

Tuition for the camp, which includes housing, meals and camp fees is $230. A commuter fee of $100 is available and a commuter meal ticket for three meals per day is an additional $60. The application and payment deadline is June 3. Applications will be accepted after June 3 with a $20 additional late fee added to the cost.

At 1:30 p.m. on June 21, the camp will culminate with a Camp Show and Awards Ceremony.

Camp descriptions, schedule and applications are available at www.soundofthesouth.org.

In connection with camp will be the annual Directors Symposium, aimed at providing busy public school band directors new ideals, tools, concepts and techniques designed to inform and enrich the teaching of music, design and administration of band programs.

Programs in the Directors Symposium also target developing the performance capabilities and the musical understanding of their students.

Graduate semester hours are available for this program. For questions about credit hours, call 334-670-3322 for more information. An application for the Directors Symposium may also be accessed at www.soundofthesouth.org.
