TROY’s ‘Doc’ Anderson wins athletic training honor

TROY—The chair of Troy University’s Department of Athletic Training /Education has been honored by the Southeast Athletic Trainer’s Association.

Associate Professor John “Doc” Anderson was presented the SATA Educator’s Award at the 32nd annual Clinical Symposium and Members Meeting in Franklin, TN. The award is presented annually to a SATA member who is “committed to teaching athletic training skills and functioning in a leadership capacity at an institution,” according to the award criteria.

Anderson, who holds the University’s Ingall’s Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching,, was head track coach and athletic trainer at the University from 1967 – 1979. He served as head athletic trainer at Louisiana State University from 1979-1989 before returning to TROY as a faculty member in the athletic training program. He has served on the medical staffs of both the United States Olympic Team and the United States Pan-American Games team. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a master’s degree from TROY. In 1999, Anderson was inducted into the Alabama Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame.
