“Concerts at the Studio” spring performances feature TROY talent

TROY -- The Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center will present two concerts in consecutive weeks as part of the “Concerts at the Studio” series. Both performances will feature soloists and groups from Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music.

On Monday, April 23, the program will feature brass ensembles including the Southeast Alabama Brass Company and the Troy Symphony Brass Quintet.

A highlight of the concert will be two world premieres to be performed by the Troy University Trumpet Ensemble under the direction of Dr. James Zingara. The first, “Philharmonic Fanfare,” was composed by Florida composer David Ott. The second work is an original piece for 12 trumpets entitled “Spring: A new Beginning” by Canadian composer David Marlatt. Both pieces were commissioned for the TROY Trumpet Ensemble’s upcoming appearance at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in May of 2007.

The following week’s concert on April 30, will feature several soloists and ensembles from the John M. Long School of Music. A highlight of this program will be a performance by the new Troy University Clarinet Choir under the direction of Dr. Timothy Phillips.

Both performances begin at 8 p.m. and are free to the public.

The Studio is located at 301 E. Walnut Street in downtown Troy, directly behind the City of Troy Public Relations and Tourism building at the corner of North Market Street and East Walnut Street. For further directions call 670-2287.
