TROY--Troy University honored two students and a member of the University’s faculty on Monday with the 2006-2007 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards.
Seniors Elizabeth Rebekah Weeks of Wilsonville and Chauncy Glover of Madison and Dr. Christi Magrath, associate professor of biology, were honored during a luncheon Monday on the Troy Campus. The three honorees were also recognized during the University’s annual Honors Convocation held Monday night in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.
The Sullivan Award, which is presented at select colleges and universities throughout the United States, recognizes recipients for their excellence of character, humanitarian service and spiritual qualities. The award has been presented annually to a male student, female student and one non-student at TROY since 1981. Students, faculty and staff nominate candidates for the award.
Weeks, a native of Wilsonville, is a member of South Brundidge Street Church of Christ. She was chosen for the Sigma Tau Delta, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She is a member of the Sound of the South Marching Band, Symphony Band and Collegiate Singers. In 2006, Weeks was named Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Junior. She is the daughter of Beth R. Weeks.
Glover is a native of Madison and a member of Big Shiloh Baptist Church. He is a Trojan Ambassador, Student Government Association Senator and a member of the National Broadcasting Society and the National Association of Black Journalists. He is a news anchor and reporter with Trojan Vision, the campus television station. He is the son of Robert and Sherry Glover.
Dr. Magrath is the president of Habitat for Humanity for Troy-Pike County and a board member of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She serves as the advisor for the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. Dr. Magrath joined the Troy University faculty in 1999 after receiving her Ph.D. from Tulane University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
