Dr. Ed Pappanastos wins Troy University’s Ingalls Award

TROY, Ala. – Dr. Ed Pappanastos, associate professor in Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business, is the 2006-2007 recipient of the Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching, the University’s most prestigious honor for faculty members.

Dr. Pappanastos, a Montgomery resident, received the award during the University’s annual Honors Convocation held Monday night in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.

The Ingalls Award is given annually to the teacher on the Troy Campus who has “most diligently, effectively and cheerfully conducted his or her classes during the current academic year.” Students nominate faculty members for the award, and a committee of students and faculty advisers selects the recipient.

Dr. Pappanastos earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in applied statistics from the University of Alabama. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Auburn University Montgomery.

Dr. Pappanastos has been a member of the Troy University faculty since 1997. Prior to joining the TROY faculty, he served as an assistant professor at Alabama State University and as an instructor of business at Auburn University at Montgomery.

Dr. Hal Fulmer, associate provost, said Dr. Pappanastos was well deserving of the award.

“One of the marks of excellent teaching at Troy University is the capacity to ask as well as to answer provocative questions,” Dr. Fulmer said in presenting the award. “In my work with Dr. Pappanastos on our First Year Studies Task Force and in my observation of him as one of our campus’s most engaging student mentors, I have found him to be a remarkably humane individual and well worthy of this award.”

Pappanastos and his wife Jaymie have two children.
