TROY—Four Troy University students have received special leadership awards for their involvement in the African-American community.
The students are Areial Harrison of Birmingham, Chauncy Glover of Huntsville, Roncheros Fortune of Montevallo and Kirbie Bodiford of Montgomery. The awards were presented at the sixth annual sixth annual Leadership Conference Celebrating Black History Month, sponsored by the City of Troy and Troy University.
“The conference committee presents these awards to African-American students at Troy University because of the vital roles they play in on-campus leadership positions,” said Derrick Brewster, coordinator of student services at TROY, who presented the awards. “They are also chosen because they serve as outstanding role models for their peers.
Harrison is a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; she is the Parliamentary for the National Pan-Hellenic Council and is also a member of Order of Omega.
Glover is a senior majoring in broadcast journalism. He is involved in the Troy University SGA, Trojan Ambassadors, National Association of Black Journalists and the National Broadcasting Society.
Fortune is a senior majoring in criminal justice. He is currently the President of the Troy University chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Vice President of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and National Pan-Hellenic Council, and a board member of the University Activities Council.
Bodiford was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated in December 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Service and a minor in Recreation. He devoted four years to TROY football. He helped the Trojans make it to two bowl games, the Silicon Valley and the New Orleans Bowl.
