TROY trumpets will blow in Massachusetts

TROY— The Troy University Trumpet Ensemble has been selected to perform at the International Trumpet Guild Conference.

The ITG, held this year May 29 – June 2 at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, highlights top collegiate trumpet ensemble programs as prelude concerts for world-class headliner performances.

“The International Trumpet Guild Conference is the trumpet event of the year,” said Dr. James Zingara, who conducts TROY’s Trumpet Ensemble.

Zingara said conference sessions are devoted to numerous topics including jazz, symphony orchestra, solo recital, chamber music, pedagogy, history, repertoire, performance practices, acoustics, equipment modifications, physiology, psychology, premieres of new works, and all aspects of the trumpet. The Festival of Trumpets Concert features more that 50 professional trumpeters.

The Troy University Trumpet Ensemble has become a mainstay throughout the University since its inception in 1998. Comprised of eight to 16 music majors, the group offers flexible combinations of trumpets featuring original music, transcriptions and novelties.

The TROY Trumpet ensemble has performed at many Troy University events, including the 1999-2007 Trumpet Symposia, the 2000 and 2001 SEUS Clinic and every commencement program from 1999. The group has also performed the National Anthem at several Montgomery Biscuits baseball games and the 2004 and 2005 Trojan Summer Music Games. In the summer of 2001, the TROY Trumpet Ensemble was featured at the Alabama Bandmaster’s Convention in Gulf Shores.

The International Trumpet Guild is a world-wide organization of trumpeters, formed to promote communication among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trumpet. ITG's more than 7,000 members represent 64 countries and include professional and amateur performers, teachers, students, manufacturers, publishers, and others interested in belonging to an organization dedicated to the trumpet profession. ITG is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization supported by the dues of individual members.
