TROY—The Brunson family and Troy University’s Elba Alumni Chapter have endowed the Edna Allen Brunson Scholarship to assist deserving students from the Elba area in attending TROY. The scholarship was originally established in August, making it the first scholarship ever to be endowed by a TROY alumni group, according to Dr. Jean Laliberte, associate vice chancellor for development. The late J.R. Brunson, past chief executive officer and president of National Securities, helped fund the initial scholarship. “The scholarship was intended to support a student for one year,” Dr. Laliberte said. “On Feb. 14, the Brunson family made a generous gift to add to the scholarship, making it renewable for individuals who maintain the requirements. The Brunson’s gift also will fund an additional student each academic year.” The renewed scholarship agreement was signed in the offices of National Securities in Elba on Feb. 14. Attending the ceremony was Jack E. Brunson, Edna Allen Brunson, Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., Laliberte, TROY Alumni Affairs Director Faith Ward, TROY Elba Alumni Chapter President Julie Parrish, TROY Alumni Board member Bubba Pinkard and close to 25 Troy University alumni who are employed by National Securities.
