Summer theater presents Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Troy University
   

TROY – Troy University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts is bringing together a cast of community members and TROY students June 29-30 for a production of the musical comedy “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

A cast of some 45 students, adults and children will take to the stage in three performances. On June 29, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater. Two performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. will take place on June 30.

“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” began life as a MGM musical in 1954. In 1981, the stage version was created and in 1982 the original Broadway version debuted, earning a 1983 Tony Award nominee for Best Original Score.

The musical is set in 1850s Oregon and is about “Millie,” a young bride who plans to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law in order to save her own marriage to the elder brother, “Adam.” The plan backfires when the brothers kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides.

TROY’s production includes both a large cast and a large chorus.

Members of the cast include TROY students Jake Askey, a senior communication arts theatre track major from Jacksonville, Fla., Casey Fariss, a junior music education major from Daleville, Jack Gillis a music industry graduate student from Fairfax, Va., Matavis Madden, a sophomore communication arts theatre track major from Valley, James Marshal, a junior communication arts theatre track major from Ozark, Alex Piper, a sophomore theatre education major from Cullman, Bryant Stokes, a sophomore communication arts theatre track major from Troy, Robert Yawn, a senior math and physical science major from Troy, Erin Collins, a freshman music industry major from Salem, April Jacobs, a music education graduate student from Smith Station, Caitlin Lancaster, a senior music education major from Smryna, Ga., Megan Martin, a junior psychology major from Atmore, Jenny Davis-Meadows, a senior communication arts dramatic track-broadcast major from Troy, and Megan Murphy, a senior communication arts theatre track major from Ozark.

Community members include Devan Beitel, a Charles Henderson High School (Troy) student, David Culpepper of Altha, Fla., Daren Everage of Montgomery, David Jordan, a CHHS student, Jimmy Messick of Troy, Patrick Murphy of Eufaula, Mark Sanders, a CHHS student, Dr. Ben Smith of Troy, Quintarries Upshaw of CHHS,  Miracle Bankston, a CHHS student, Jessica Benoskie, a CHHS student, Adrienne Hicks, a sophomore dance major at New York City’s Fordham University, from Troy, Jennifer Couch-Hollis of Troy, Terry Lee of Brundidge, Georgia Mallory of Troy, Lauryn Oliver of Troy, Valari Radford of Titus, Charlotte Smith of Troy, and Shaana Stone of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Children included in the cast include Rebecca Brown, the daughter of David and Beth Copage of Brundidge, Lauren and Thomas Bryant, children of Danny and Ursula Bryant of Brundidge, Caitlin Hicks, the daughter of Deborah and Ed Hicks of Troy, Haley and Hanna Jordan, daughters of Belinda and Ken Jordan of Troy, Cassidy Oswald, daughter of Carla Oswald of Troy, Kait, Kristal and Kym Ross, all daughters of Kellie and Kris Ross of Troy, Benjamin and Deanna Smith, children of Dr. Ben and Deanna Smith of Troy.

The production is co-directed by Adena Moree and Tori Lee.
