March 7, 2007 Phi Alpha Theta Inducts New Members at Troy University DOTHAN - The Troy University Iota Mu Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta initiated nine new members during a recent ceremony on the Dothan Campus. Inductees to the history honor society include Kristen Abbott, of Ozark; Dee Anna Jordan, of Dothan; Gayle Kennedy, of Blakely, Ga.; Amie Lech, of Waldron, Ark.; Rachel Povlacs, of Dothan; Cary Price, of Abbeville; Keith Reed, of Dothan; Michelle Teat, of Eufaula; and Maria Tang-Thigpen, of Andalusia.Drs. Larry Brown, Robert Burroughs, Kirk Davis, Robert Saunders and Marty Olliff presented initiates with lifetime membership certificates and lapel pins. The students also received honor cords to wear with their graduation regalia. Established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas, Phi Alpha Theta is the preeminent honor society among professional and aspiring historians. Members must maintain a 3.25 grade point average in their history courses and a 3.0 overall grade point average. Although members do not have to be history majors, they must have completed at least four history courses to qualify.
