Wachovia Foundation establishes scholarship at Troy University

TROY—Students at Troy University will benefit from a new scholarship created by the Wachovia Foundation, according to University and Wachovia officials.

Wachovia Representatives visited the Troy Campus today to present a $250,000 check to Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, to endow the scholarship. Mitch Hunt, Wachovia Regional President; and Charlie Breedlove, Wachovia Troy Market President, made the presentation at a luncheon in the Trojan Center Board Room.

The Wachovia Foundation Scholarships contribution will provide need-based scholarships each academic year for students enrolled at Troy University who are female and/or students of color. Wachovia Scholars will receive $2,000 for the academic year, or $1,000 each semester. Recipients will be selected by the Troy University Scholarship Committee. Students must have a 3.0 overall grade point average to be eligible for the scholarship.

“We have worked hard to transform Troy University into a diverse, multicultural institution with a global outlook,” Chancellor Hawkins said. “The Wachovia Scholarships will help us enhance that vision. We appreciate the Wachovia Foundation’s commitment to providing education opportunities for deserving students.’

“At Wachovia we are committed to giving back to the communities where we do business,” said Charlie Breedlove, market president for Wachovia in Troy. “We are proud to partner with Troy University in its mission to provide educational opportunities to all students in our community.”
